Something Interesting

Worried that you are stressed??? For those who think that they are stressed there is a quiz that you can take. If you go to the bottom of the page to the section titled, “Related Websites”, you can click on the link “Teacher TV – Stress”. When you get to the page, you will find a link under the picture of a woman titled “Start the Stress Quiz”. From there you will answer a number of questions and they will basically give you a score at the end, along with the answer to how stressed you are. I hope you enjoy!

Concerning Journal Articles

If you have already checked my journal articles you will know that you cannot obtain all of them, you may need to have a student number and an access code. If you go to Memorial you may already have one, if not you can go to a librarian at the QEII and they will supply you with one. For those who do not go to an educational institute I will list the articles and all the journal information so you can go to a library in your area and check them out for yourself. I hope this helps!

Some Information

According to one website, stress is described as “the ‘wear and tear’ our bodies experience as we adjust to our continually changing environment; it has physical and emotional effects on us and can create positive or negative feelings”. Those who are teachers experience changing environments year after year; stress is bound to affect them at least once in their career. It has been said that teaching is considered a noble job but it has also been noted that it is among one of the top 5 stressful jobs out there.

The following sites and links I made available help answer many questions relating to teacher stress. They discuss possible ways to help manage stress, tips for educators, coping methods, reasoning behind teacher stress, as well as studies that look into the causes and effects of stress on teachers. They also contain quizzes, links to other sites, plus video episodes that deal with stress in schools.
I hope this blog will answer any questions teachers; students or parents may have concerning this issue. Maybe by being more informed, present and future teachers, can prepare themselves for what comes with the job.

Introduction

Hey Everyone!
My name is Jennifer and I have been attending Memorial University part-time since 2001. In the Spring of 2007 I was finally accepted into the Faculty of Education, a dream of mine since the age of 10. Once I complete my Primary/Elementary degree, with a focus in history, I hope to obtain a teaching position in the Province and to eventually travel the world using the knowledge I have learned along the way. Up until now I haven't had any real experience with the topic of teacher stress, unless you count my own teachers having breakdowns, lol. I figured teacher stress is an important topic to look into, for I believe every teacher will eventually end up experiencing some kind of stress throughout their career.
